Full Scratch Figure – Making the head

It’s been a while since I blogged about making my full scratch figure, but lately I finally got back to working on it. Recently I have been working on sculpting the face of the figure. It took me two attempts. The first try, I had trouble as I kept ruining the shape of the head when trying to do the details on the face, so it ended in disaster. The second attempt however, I decided to only work on the face and worry about the back of the head later on, so I concentrated on the face only.

After failing on my first attempt, I learnt how to draw faces in profile at Pen Cafe, and this gave me a reference on the anatomy of the head and face. It really came in useful and I ended up with a fairly decent face.

I currently don’t know how to put in the mouth or the eyes, but I’m happy that I’ve gotten the basic shape right. Now I have to see if I made the head large enough for the body. I think at the moment it is still a little too small for the body that I was sculpting. I plan to increase the size of the head and add the mouth and eyes next.
